Economists predict
that construction will continue to decline in 2009, but at a slower pace
— and only if the government bank rescue and economic stimulus plans
work. That’s not completely comforting news for building contractors,
but it does provide a new opportunity for building owners that can stay
the course with planned construction projects. After several years of
increasing prices, material costs have dropped. This effect, along with
reduced construction demand, should produce lower overall costs for individual
construction projects.
